Keep an eye out for this years HEIAQ conference in August - registration is open - it promises to be good too with a focus on the Year of the Family and Celebrating Home Economics. In June I attended the EduTech Conference in Brisbane. It was 2 days packed with experiences for teachers in the classroom to incorporate digital technology into their classrooms. Digital Technology is just a tool to add to our teaching repetoire. Just as we use a piece of paper or book, we can use digital technology as easily. I highly recommend that you take a look at some of the guest speakers for some information about using technology in a practical way in the classroom. One school is using Minecraft - a free online computer game - referred to as lego online to encourage students to explore topics such as sustainability and global warming. The students love it. Take a look at the Hole in the wall project where computers are being spread throughout the country areas of India to educate children, it is amazing. The kids are teaching themselves to use the computers and just go on from there to greater things. Take a look at the work of Alan November - it is truly inspiring. Just a few ideas to wet you appetite for more.
